Some Conservative (Tory) Councillors from leafier Wallasey areas have just ’apparated’, like bad guys from a Harry Potter story, to start depositing their quaintly named, August-dated, ‘Newsline’ through a few Seacombe letterboxes.
But, after all, they really do have to travel rather a long way to visit far-away (for them) Seacombe, so maybe we should make allowances for them being confused about what month of the year it is? After all, the content of their rather late leaflet seemed equally confused.
Take their reporting about Seacombe library for example - it’s no better than their awarenes of the month of the year ……………….. defector Denis Knowles is described as ‘fighting to maintain’ our local library. They made this fascinating claim but they didn’t give any details.
So when was it?
Before Knowles defected from Labour (without giving the people who had voted him in as a Labour representative a by-election) the Tories, who now use him to deliver their leaflets, condemned him precisely because he declared publicly that closing our library would be ‘For the Greater Good.’ (His exact words.) But he knows – and they know - that he voted in Council for the closure.
But the worst aspect of their propaganda is for Wallasey Tories to to travel over from their heartlands and imagine that Seacombe people are gullible enough to swallow it. Putting a political case is fine – if it’s done accurately. But doesn’t their habit of insulting the intelligence of our people with this sort of empty, clucking, propaganda speak volumes?

I always believed that Seacombe was in fact part of Wallasey. Fair enough, fire a few across the bows of the tories, but please dont insinuate that Wallasey is some far off place full of posh people. Some of us have friends and relatives all over the area.
