Round and about in Seacombe

13th January 2010

The picture below shows John, just before visiting some of the remaining residents of Mersey Court before they are re-housed.  (Adrian is not in the picture – he’s taking it.)

This has been a great wrench for many of the older residents in particular, some of whom are not in good health.

We hope that their new homes can be happy for them but it will not be the same as having a long established circle of friends they have grown to know well in the same building.  They will miss having panoramic views such as this one of the Space Centre.

We are watching WPH closely to see what the future is for this building.

Next John and Adrian visited the Allandale Centre – one in a series of meetings in which we will be assisting the management committee to plan for the future.   Until recently some temporary external funding had made the Club secure for a time but with that drying up work will be needed to establish longer term viability.  This great asset has served generations of local youngsters ever since it was established in the early 1950s.  When the Club was previously in trouble a number of years ago Adrian became the Chairman of its Management Committee and helped draw it back into viability.  Since then excellent committee members and paid staff have seen it grow from strength to strength.

With new financial pressures the work continues, so please watch this space.

Next John and Adrian visit the demolition site where the flats on Borough Way just opposite the ‘Five Bars Rest, and the ‘Leasowe Castle’ have been knocked down to make way for new developments.  We will report on this as work develops.

In between a  Councillor’s jobs, it’s out for a walk with the wiley old Welsh Collie and (seemingly) nuclear-powered English Springer - how they love playing in the snow!

In between Council work Adrian finds time to take his Welsh Collie and English Springer for fun in the parks.
