Public spirit during the blizzard

Following the blizzard of 6th January eight or nine regulars at Seacombe Community Centre’s Luncheon Club were stranded and unable to return home for several hours. The staff told Adrian and John  a story of real public spiritedness in what was a serious situation with the snow and ice.

Seeing the problem the staff of ‘Tommy’s Bar’ in nearby ‘Five Bars Rest’ realised how difficult it was for elderly frail people to wait about in those conditions, and they didn’t hesitate to help.  They brought them into the warmth of the pub and kept them going with hot tea and coffee until help arrived.

Landlord Tommy Jones was delighted that his staff rose to the occasion, saying this is a local pub that takes a real interest in the community.  Helping out in the blizzard was second nature.
