Hot on the heels of a Senior Liverpool Lib/Dem Councillor walking away from his party, and seeking Labour Party membership, a CWU publication reports ‘MORE LIB DEMS QUIT IN PROTEST AT COALITION’S CUTS’.
It relates how no fewer than three Lib Dem councillors in Halton have joined others in quitting their party in protest at the Coalition Government’s cuts in public services. The article says Runcorn councillors Bob Bryant, Peter Blackmore and Chris Carlin said the Lib Dem’s had become “nodding dogs for the Tories”. They were unhappy with the savage cuts to public services and benefits, which were hitting Halton’s poorest the hardest.

These must be unhappy times for Wirral’s own Liberal Councillors. We know that several of them are extremely unhappy at having to play second fiddle to the Tories who are only held in place with their support – but no Lib Dem policies seem evident. On Wirral it is clearly the Tories who are leading the game with Liberals (who lost a quarter of their seats last May while Labour gained four) seeming to do little more than rubber stamp Tory dogma. The questions Seacombe Liberals must be asking are:
- Why are we doing this when the ConDem national government and the Wirral Tories represent everything we fought against? And
- Are we now facing a fresh tranch of losses in the 2011 council elections?
At this rate it looks as though the Liberals on Wirral have set the conditions for irreparable reversals in the voter base for their party.

THEY COULD GO TO THE ELECTORATE WITH A CLEAR CONSCIENCE, AND A GOOD CASE, ARGUING THAT THEY CANNOT ANY LONGER BE A CRUTCH FOR TORIES. BUT DON’T CONFUSE THIS WITH THE SELF-APPOINTED CHE GUEVARA DISCIPLE WHO MADE A POLITICAL CORK-SCEW LEAP IN THE EXACT OPPOSITE DIRECTION – TO BE A CRUTCH FOR THE VERY TORIES FROM WHOM THE LIBERALS ARE INCREASINGLY TRYING TO DISTANCE THEMSELVES! WHAT A CONTRADICTORY LEAP HIS WAS! SOME CRUTCH!
BY THE WAY, DO YOU THINK CHE WOULD BE EXACTLY PLEASED TO SEE THE WAY HIS PHOTO HAS BEEN PUBLISHED NEXT TO A BUNCH OF TORIES BY THIS ‘NEW TORY’ WHO RECKONS THE BLUE-RINSE PARTY HAS BECOME ‘REVOLUTIONARY’ IN MUCH THE SAME WAY AS THE CUBANS OF 1959 AND AFTER? SORRY ‘INNIEBEAR’ BUT YOUR ATTEMPTS TO SUPPORT THE DEFECTOR ARE PRETTY DESPERATE.
