Clarendon Road trees

14th December 2011

Cllr John Salter reports

A couple of years ago the Council was faced with a dillema.  Several mature trees in Seacombe’s Clarendon Road had become diseased or dangerous.  The obvious answer was just to fell them and leave this traditionally tree lined road with long patches without trees.  But your Labour Councillors took the matter up with the Council and although some had to be cut down, because they were no longer safe, meetings with senior officers of the Council were arranged with residents in the road.  The result was that instead of just cutting some down it was agreed to replace them, and even to add a few more to make up for those lost in previous years.

Sadly, as these pictures show, there is a tiny minority of people with no concern for their neighbours or for the attractiveness of our environment, nor for the valuable homes the trees provide for birds and other wildlife.  John has secured agreement to replace the vandalised trees with sturdier ones.

What pleasure could the mindless vandal have who did this?

Yes, a new tree was planted here!

This is absolutely disgusting mindless vandalism.
When things like this happen (however trivial it may seem to some) it disheartens people and makes you feel like there is no point in looking after the area and the community.
Well done to Councilor John Salter for arranging the damaged/ vandalized trees to be replaced, and to the council for funding this to happen in the current economic climate.
