Planters to brighten up New Brighton

19th January 2011

Cllr Pat Glasman

The new planters have been installed for a little while now and as the flowers come into bloom they will make a real difference to Seabank Road.  They are definitely a cheerful addition to the street scene. Local shopkeepers are very pleased with them and I think happy that they are not being forgotten in the general emphasis on the Seafront lately. I especially like the bench and planter at the top of Magazine Lane at the junction with Seabank Road.

Unfortunately, on Friday night somebody attacked the planter outside the Post Office and plants were thrown around outside the shop and onto the canopy above but the staff did their best to rescue the planter. I hope this doesn’t happen too often, especially as the Post Office is such an essential hub in the community.

Christmas Pudding Race – Cllr Pat Glasman reports

2nd January 2012

The traditional Christmas pudding race on Boxing Day on New Brighton’s Marine Lake was postponed this year due to high winds and took place on 2nd January.   Some adventurous people set out on the lake also in ‘breezy’ conditions – including yours truly – and had fun.

Unfortunately there were one or two capsizes but no-one came to any harm and fun was had by all.

The Seaside Events Group has adopted a Constitution and changed its name – from now on we will be ‘New Brighton Waves’. More news on this in following posts.

Christmas at the Seaside

16th December 2011

Cllr Pat Glasman reports

New Brighton’s Seaside Events Group held a Family Christmas Crafts event at the Seaside Cafe on Thursday 15th December. The Cafe was full of Mums, Dads and Children making cards and lanterns. Father Christmas came along to say hello and we had an orchestra and choir for Christmas Carols. Cathy Roberts, (Tugboat Cath), played the ukele and we had a ‘mice at Christmas’ fairytale as well. There was mulled wine, wonderful snacks and mince pies and a giant Santa outside. This was a free family event which we hope to be able to repeat next Christmas – it would have been difficult to fit another person inside.

We would like to thank the Officers from Wirral Council Technical Services who pulled out all the stops so that we had some christmas lights on the promenade for the evening.
