Motorway Bridge hazard

IMG_0863The ‘Sherlock’ bridge seen in the photograph has been the IMG_0865scene of tragedies.

John is determined to see measures taken to prevent them in future.

However the bridge has also provided a platform for vandals to throw heavy objects at traffice passing below.  John raised the question of having the bridge completely enclosed both so that nobody could jump off it and so that it cannot be used to throw missiles at vehicles passing below.

Initially his request was not accepted, but John’s not a man to take ‘no’ for an answer and it has now been referred back to Merseytravel, who are its custodians.  We hope they will take responsibility for the safety and fencing.

John comments:

“This is not a matter for casual consideration; lives could depend on the decisions made.  We hope they will be the right ones.”

Tate Triangle Miasma

We reported on 25th that a ship had arrived laden with Tall Oil – the substance associated with a particularly foul smelling incident earlier this year.  Adrian explained that this had been reported to our Environmental Health Officers with a request that there should be urgent measures to ensure that nothing similar to the appalling smells earlier this year would be replicated.

The Association members were adamant that they wanted no repetition of the previous air contamination and applauded the work being done by Adrian and John.  They also decided that the Committee would write formally to the Council.

Watch this space for regular updates.

Tate Triangle Residents’ Association – recent community successes

At this evening’s Tate Triangle Residents’ Association meeting reports were given about the excellent work done in conjunction with St Luke’s Church.  Facilitated by the Residents’ Association, and with close support from Cllr John IMG_0870Salter, the Community Payback Scheme has renovated several rooms in the Church so that they can once more become excellent community facilities.  The Community Association Committee members are working closely with the Church to bring ever more local activities into its newly renovated premises.  John was personally thanked for the work he had put in.

John is seen (just about, but we didn’t want to leave the Church out of the main picture!) outside St Lukes where he was so closely involved in the renovation project.

This followed close on the heels of his involvement in the August Fun day.  That had been made possible by Riverside Housing’s grant of £700 pounds.  Out of the fun day came some raffle funding – which was donated to the ‘Help the Heroes’ campaign.
