Council meeting: 21/12/09

22nd December 2009

Yesterday’s meeting had only one significant item of business.

The “Local Government and Public Involvement in Health Act 2007″ required the Council to review its governance arangements by 31st December 2009.  The Conservatives wanted to oppose both of the two choices available in favour of a third, of their own invention - which was not available.

They felt that by signalling opposition to both options a transitional arrangment might have been followed so that in the event that there should be a new government, offering different choices perhaps taking us back to the old committee system or something similar to it, then an arrangement more to their preferences could emerge instead.  However, a decision was made to adopt a system not dissimilar to  the existing Cabinet arrangements that have been in force for some years.
