After they read Rob’s experience below how many prominent Conservatives will speak up against government policy? We would love to hear from them.

Can this be the answer to the bankers' debts?

“I have just popped in to visit an elderly neighbour and found her sitting by an unlit gas fire with a long ‘thermal’ dressing gown on over her clothes. She was quite cheerful and pleased with herself because she’d thought of this as a good money saving idea.

She didn’t want her name or picture published, because she’s always been independent and kept herself to herself, but she didn’t mind if I told you about her – as long as I passed on the tip about keeping warm with the dressing gown!

She has a niece who comes and takes her to Bingo every week; but she won’t go if she can’t pay for herself. It’s the only outing and bit of a social life that she gets in the whole week and she had managed to budget for it well enough until recently. She still wants to go out but this ConDem government cut her Winter Fuel Allowance, just when the fuel prices were going up. So now she’s pinching pennies.

Rob questions whether this government has any idea how real people live.

She’s worked all her life, she’s paid her taxes and her contributions, she’s managed to save a bit for a rainy day and she’s never hurt a soul.

Can the Tories and their newspapers truly want you to believe her Winter Fuel Allowance should be cut to help pay for the bankers’ crash that she didn’t cause? Do the Bankers honestly want you to believe they can’t afford to pay her any real interest on her savings?

If we are “all in it together” why are so many of our pensioners living in fuel poverty?

She’s not angry about that dressing gown, but I am.

How about you?”

2nd February 2012

Local residents in the Magazine brow area have won their battle to have a new bin installed on the bottom of their steps on the promenade area – which has also benefited from a thorough cleanse and litter pick thanks to help from Rob and his team working with Cllrs Pat Hackett & Pat Glasman.

Albion Street garage site

Robbie Gregson

Rob and the team, with Cllrs Pat Hackett and Pat Glasman, have been busy attending to numerous matters recently. Following complaints from nearby property owners about the old Albion garages site on Albion Street, including a call from the proprietor of the Hollins Heys Hotel, Rob and his team took their concerns up. The site, previously an eyesore and prone to vandalism, because of its wide open nature, is now boarded off much to the delight of nearby residents.

Err ... not quite the idea! Robbie is taking it up.

There is just one outstanding problem which happened during the course of the work to secure the site – the Hollins Hey Hotel sign was obscured. After meeting with the proprietor Rob said he is ” … determined to ensure that this oversight is rectified.”

Watch this space for details!

Rob is dealing with this potential hazard, as well.

Meanwhile, Rob and the Team have also been busy in other parts of our ward getting a long standing problem solved outside shops on Victoria Road. Rob says he and the Action Team have taken up this issue after local residents contacted them because of the length of time it has taken to repair this hazard to pedestrians – and particularly the elderly who have to navigate past this as oncoming traffic is going past them.

Rob says they will keep the pressure up on behalf of local residents and he will report back shortly hopefully with good news!

Don’t forget if you have a problem contact Rob Gregson and the Action Team on: 07919525255
