Known locally as 'The Five Bars Field' this grassed area is in fact the site of flats demolished some time ago. Kept for future development "Wirral Partnership Homes" own the land and are going to make sure the grass is cut in readiness.

The event, which is to be declared open by the new Mayor, is now in an advanced stage of planning led by Five Bars Manager Tommy Jones and its new owner Peter Clee.

For the Queen’s diamond Jubilee holiday on 6th June Wirral Partnership Homes has kindly donated the use  of the ‘field’ next to the Five Bars Rest.

Meanwhhile the local residents have come together to form a ‘hands on’ committee to get on with the work.

Only twenty or so of the volunteers were present at the meeting shown in the photograph – many being in work this morning – but the whole community is behind this bank holiday event.

Ex Councillor Peter Clee now owns the Five Bars having acquired it from Tommy Jones who did so much for our local community over recent years.

Let’s hope the weather will be fine for the event.  Early signs from the local residents’ committee are that it will be quite spectacular with all sorts of games and attractions for the children.  So watch this space for regular updates.

STOP PRESS ANNOUNCEMENT

The local residents’ association, known as the ‘Seacombe Area Group’ (or ‘SAG’ for short) meets regularly in nearby St Paul’s Church Hall.  The next meeting will be at 4.00pm this coming Tuesday, 15th May.  All residents are welcome to attend and meet the local police, social housing officers, councillors, and many others.

The seven new Labour Councillors

The photograph shows the seven new Labour Councillors whose victory, together with the retention of all other Labour Seats, has now provided us with a comfortable majority of eight over the Tories and LibDems combined.   Following their two years of collaboration the decision of the electorate leaves no doubt.

From left to right the new Labour Councillors, pictured in the Town Hall, are:  Anita Leech, Leasowe;  Sylvia Hodrien, Upton;  Janette Williamson, Liscard;  Tony Norbury, Prenton;  Rob Gregson, New Brighton;  Mike sullivan, Pensby;  and Christina Muspratt, Bebington.

All in this photograph are members of trade unions, several of ‘Unite the Union’.
